INDIANA
Freestyle Duals
Season & Championship
March 13, 2023 - May 13, 2023
OVERVIEW
As Indiana continues to increase the quantity and quality of wrestling in the state, one bridge that must be crossed is our participation and success in the Olympic styles. The reality is you don't just wrestle in these styles WHEN you are good, but you wrestle in these styles TO BE good. It is almost a secret weapon to achieving higher Folkstyle success.
As we look at the Freestyle and Greco season in Indiana, over time it has been limited due to the increased opportunities of Folkstyle. Knowledge of these styles may be difficult to technically teach for some, the yearly rule adjustments can be tough to follow, Regional Training Center's may be limited in certain areas, and already packed weekends may make it difficult to logistically participate in these styles.
Even still, coaches and programs LOVE the opportunity to participate in team/program building endeavors. After last year's Freestyle State Duel Championship's success, the Indiana State Wrestling Association has partnered with Frecoduels.com to bring a Freestyle Duel Season to Indiana!
This season is designed to allow wrestling teams and programs around the state additional opportunities to continue training and competing, build program camaraderie, and enhance Indiana's awareness and growth in the Olympic styles. The season will culminate with the 3rd Annual Indiana Freestyle Dual State Championship on May 13. This year is already geared to be even more successful and we look forward to exponential growth over the years to come!
When:
The Freestyle Dual Season will run between March 13 - May 4, which gives us several weeks to get in as many duals as possible. We are asking that teams get at least 2 duals in this season, if possible, before competing at the Team State Tournament on May 13.
Where:
Many teams elect to dual on weekdays in order to leave the weekends available for Open tournaments. There will be several Super Duals around the state for teams to get matches as well. We prefer to stream these events where possible to increase viewers, so a dual does not necessarily need a gym/fieldhouse and can be hosted in a wrestling rooms.
